Singer Lia Pale and arranger, pianist, and composer mathias rüegg have joined forces to breathe new life into the timeless world of romantic song literature. "The Great European Songbook" promises a musical journey that transcends genre boundaries with selections from all three acclaimed programs: "A Winter's Journey," "The Schumann Song Book," and "The Brahms Song Book." It is an evening where the rich tapestry of the European classical tradition meets the improvisational spirit of jazz. What Lia Pale and Mathias Rüegg are doing is essentially the same as what is common in jazz - taking existing musical material and creating something entirely new and personal from it. The only difference is that they draw their songs from the Great European Songbook rather than the Great American Songbook. In other words, instead of George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter, they have chosen Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms. And that is exactly what will be celebrated this evening. Lia Pale and Mathias Rüegg together create a musical journey that transcends time, inviting the audience to rediscover the melodies of Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms. Their collaboration is more than an adaptation; it is a transformation that blends the past with the present, resulting in a harmonious mix of classical and contemporary sensibilities.
